Are you a Francophile? Or a business-minded person? Or simply a professional who enjoys a nice Happy Hour in one of the most beautiful embassies in Washington? Then this event is for you! And of course, no need to speak French. Unless you want to!
Founded by France Libre exiles during WWII, France-Amérique has evolved significantly since its inception as a French language newspaper in 1943. In its current form, France-Amérique is published monthly as the only French-English bilingual magazine in the U.S. To celebrate this transformation, on the year of its 75th anniversary, France-Amérique is organizing the collection and display of 20 original illustrations by French artist Olivier Tallec to have graced its covers since its most recent rebranding.
Artist Profile:
Olivier Tallec is an illlustrator for newspapers Libération and Le Monde, children’s books, and comics, and is one of the most successful French illustrators abroad. Each one of Tallec’s cover illustrations for France-Amérique reflects in one powerful visual a message evoked within the magazine’s pages. Tallec is adept in the art of humorous illustrations for adults, and he manages to present a blend of dark humor and the absurd with just a few brushstrokes. This unique and recognizable style has garnered a strong following and has turned France-Amérique’s covers into veritable collector’s items.
Vernissage:
Upon the opening of the exhibition, Guy Sorman, the President of France-Amérique may be present to give short introductory speeches presenting the magazine and the cover illustrations.
20 Covers:
All of the covers designed by Tallec since France-Amérique's rebranding in 2015 will be on display.
